Cleaning Guidelines

• At all times ensure you comply with both your company’s COSHH guidance and the manufacturer’s instructions.

• To make sure items aren’t missed, break down cleaning tasks by the type of item and use a checklist to log what has been completed that week.

• When a cleaning task has been completed, ensure all items used are removed and safely locked away before customers have access to the lanes.

• If you require assistance with anything mentioned in this info sheet, contact support@bowlingvision.com for advice

Supplies

• We can supply any cleaning items you need to complete these tasks. Contact sales@bowlingvision.com to place an order.

• Specialist cleaning equipment is noted in italics. There is a table at the end of this info sheet which contains a list of these items and our product codes.

How to clean and oil the lanes

• Lane cleaner is the product which gets put down first. It needs to be diluted approximately 20 to 1 in a mop bucket.

• Lane conditioner is your lane oil. This comes out straight, not diluted and need to be in a heavy-duty

spray bottle. This is the second chemical to be used.

Lane cleaning

  1. Ensure all lanes are fully isolated
  2. Soak the lane towel in the diluted lane cleaner in a mop bucket
  3. Ring out the towel as much as possible
  4. Place the towel across the lane, near the back of the lanes.
  5. Place the silver metal triangular device onto the middle of the towel.
  6. Push the towel into the pin deck area, as far as you can.
  7. Start walking down the lane, dragging, and mopping the lane surface as you go.
  8. Ensure you don’t miss areas
  9. Repeat the process from step two for each lane.

Conditioning the lane

  1. Ensure all lanes are dry before starting this process
  2. You will need the green handled device, with the fluffy buffer attached to the Velcro strips underneath.
  3. Using the heavy-duty spray bottle, spray 5 time, focusing mainly on the middle of the first lane panel, closest to the approach.
  4. Standing on the second lane panel, buffer the conditioner into the lane, with a forward, back and side to side motion, allowing for an even distribution. Ensure the warning slippery floor safety sign is covered.
  5. Whist walking down the second lane panel spray 3 times, buffer the conditioner into the lane, with a forward, back and side to side motion, allowing for an even distribution.
  6. Whist walking down the third lane panel spray 2 times, buffer the conditioner into the lane, with a forward, back and side to side motion, allowing for an even distribution.
  7. Stand back and check for any missing patches. If any additional lane condition is required use sparingly.
  8. Try to avoid getting the conditioner in the gutters and on the capping. If any conditioner does land on these, clean it up immediately.
  9. Repeat form step 3 for all lanes.
  10. When finished, remove the oiled fluffy buffer from the device and fold in half, with the conditioned section on the inside. Place back down the back of the lanes, in the guttering trough.
  11. Go and release the isolated lanes, ensuring they are in scorer control mode. If using a new pad use 10 sprays of oil onto the pad before going to lane to pre-soak. Remember the pads need to be washed periodically. When topping up the oil on the lanes DO NOT step on the oil already on the lane surface. Walk down the capping using the oil sparingly.

Approaches

Checks

• The approach should be checked for slip and trip hazards (e.g. spills) on an interim basis during every trading session.

• We recommend these checks are carried out every 30 minutes and recorded in a logbook.

Cleaning

Due to the risk of customer injury, approach cleaning should be carried out every day. This would either be carried out after closing, or before opening, but always after the Gutters have been mopped (see above).

Dusting

• Take the approach dust mop.

• Start at the front edge of the approaches closest to the bowlers and push the mop towards the lane, turning and heading back towards the bowler’s area – taking care not to drag conditioner from the lane onto the approach.

• When going around the Ball Return, it is important to also dust the approaches under the ball rack.

• When all approaches have been dusted, shake the dust mop out and sweep up the dust and debris.

• The mop head should then be washed, left to dry and reused.

Spot Cleaning

• Walk the entire approach area looking for any contamination such as shoe scuffs, spills, oil either left from conditioning the lane or from bowlers walking out on the lane and back onto the approach.

• Firstly, clean any areas where there is a spillage with diluted lane cleaner, using a non-abrasive cloth.

Secondly, clean any areas contaminated with lane oil – either from customers tracking it back, or your spillage cleaning in the first step – using IPA 99. Simply spray the affected area, then wipe with a clean, dry non-abrasive cloth
