Sync Pay - Refunding Credit Card Payments
Refunding a Credit Card
With Sync Pay, there are 3 different ways in which you can refund a credit card payment.
Sync Desk can be used to do both partial or full refunds as long as the payment was made during the same fiscal date.
Sync Office can do both partial or full refunds, the process for either being the same, as long as the payment made was part of an ended shift or on a different fiscal day.
Any credit card refund is IMMEDIATELY captured by Adyen and cannot be voided or reversed once done.
Fiscal Reporting can be impacted due to the immediate execution of refunds combined with the capture delay of standard transactions. See Sync Pay - Sales & Fiscal Reporting for more information.
Refunds that are NOT associated with a previous transaction (direct refunds) are NOT permitted. Attempting to do this will result in an error message being displayed explaining that this is not allowed.

If you are doing this method, then you will need to ensure that revenue on the day of the refund has also been reduced to avoid creating a till over / under. The most effective way to do this is a manual process through your daily and weekly reconciliation. For more information please contact support@bowlingvision.com. Many operators prefer refunds that do not happen on the day to be performed via direct bank transfer and recorded in the accounting software on a specific refund line.
Refunding a credit card transaction through Sync Office is only allowed for transactions that have been run through End Shift. Attempting to refund a transaction in this manner that has not been ended will result in an error.
-
Open
Sync Office and log in.
-
Click Analysis
, then View Transactions
.
-
Search for the transaction that needs to be refunded, then click the Magnifying Glass
to open the transaction.
-
In the View Transaction Details window, click the credit payment line item that needs to be refunded, then click Refund Credit Card.
-
Key in the amount to refund, up to the maximum amount of the transaction, then click OK.
The transaction refund will be processed, and Sync will prompt you that a new transaction was created to refund the money to the card. Click OK.
In View Transactions, you will find the new transaction under today's fiscal day.
The new transaction will have the following properties:
- Type: Refund
- (1) Credit Payment in the amount that was refunded (shown as a negative)
- (1) Account Debit to the account configured in POS Policies (Void Payments Account).
