Partially Void a Payment

Tip

If you have the permissions to do so, you may also want to consider Re-Opening a Closed Tab as an alternative method to partially voiding a payment as it is easier to do.

  1. Open

    Sync Desk icon

     Sync Desk and log in.

  2. Click the Receipt button to expand the menu.
  3. Click Void Credit Payments.
  4. Click the transaction you need to do a partial refund for.
  5. Click Partially Void Payment.
  6. Key in the amount you would like to void.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Click OK to acknowledge the transaction will be re-opened.
  9. The partial void is processed.

As the transaction is open, you will need to balance the transaction manually.

You can void 1 or more item(s) from the transaction appropriately or use a configured Discount / Surcharge, but the transaction must be balanced back to $0.

    Sync Desk icon

     Sync Desk and log in.

  3. Click Void Credit Payments.

Re-Opening a Closed Tab

Permissions Needed

To follow this procedure, you must have the following permission(s) in Sync.

For additional guidance on permissions, see Managing Roles & Permissions in Sync.

  • Point of Sale > General > Reopen Closed Tabs
  1. Click the Receipt button to expand the menu.

  2. Click Reopen Closed Tabs.

  3. Click the transaction you want to reopen, then click Reopen Selected Receipt.

✅ Sync Desk will re-open and display the receipt for this transaction. You can add or remove line items or make any other adjustments to the re-opened transaction.

It should be noted that at this point, no changes have been made to the authorization to the customer's card.

If the transaction is modified, there are two transaction processes that can occur:

Closing the Modified Transaction - Negative Total

If the transaction has had any discounts or line items voided, than the total amount owed may now show a negative balance.

In this example, we've voided the Hunter Style Sandwiches that were on the transaction, therefore the balance owed is now ($10.57).

  1. Click Pay Now.

    SyncDesk_ReopenedTransaction-02b.png

  2. Click OK on the prompt that appears.

This will reduce the authorization made to the customer's card to the new total of the transaction.

The alternate route to achieve the same objective would be to select line item in the transaction with the validated card amount and then the void button.

Closing the Modified Transaction - Positive Total

If the transaction has had any surcharges or line items added, than the total amount owed will show a positive balance due as the total of the transaction has increased.

In this example, an additional Hunter Style Sandwich has been added to the transaction, therefore the balance owed is now $5.29.

  1. Click Pay Now.

  2. Click Pay with Credit Card.

  3. Click Increase Authorization.

Managing End Shifts

Tip

Before running End Shift, it is strongly recommended to ensure that any appropriate transactions have gratuities assigned and that gratuities have been paid out in accordance with your bowling center's policies.

If you attempt to run End Shift before a gratuity has been assigned or the gratuities have been paid out, the flow described below will differ slightly.
