Samsung BET Monitors - IP Monitor Control

Initial Setup

This requires Sync 3.6 and later.

When the TV is first turned on, it will walk you through some amount of setup. These steps may vary based on firmware version, so don’t be surprised if your setup looks a little different. We will be using a wired LAN to control the TV because the wireless control was too flaky.

  1. Connect the TV into the Sync Network.
  2. Connect the TV to power and turn it on.
  3. The TV will ask you to select a language. Do so.
  4. It will ask you to connect any devices. Connect the Display Controller to the TV via HDMI and click Next.
  5. It will detect the Sync Network and show you the IP address. Write down the lane number and IP address – you will need these later to set up the TV in Office.
    • The TV may say “Wired network connection failed”, but if there is an IP on the screen, you are good. Just click “Skip” in the upper right corner.
  6. The TV will now identify the Display Controller. Once that finishes, click Next.
  7. You will get a “TV is ready to use” message – click Done.
  8. After initial setup is complete, on the TV, go to Settings > General > Network > Expert Settings. Make sure “Power On with Mobile” is enabled, and enable the “IP Remote” setting.
  9. Go to Settings > General > Eco Solution and disable Ambient Light Detection.
  10. Disable features on startup by going to Settings > General > Smart Features and disable both Autorun Smart Hub and Autorun Last App.
  11. If you plan on controlling TV channels in this center, you must first scan for channels. You can do this by pressing “CH LIST” on the TV remote, then selecting “scan now”.

You can use a dynamic or static IP on the TV. If you wish to set a static IP, go to Settings > General > Network > Network Status > IP Settings.

We need to know the IP of the target TV. If you did not write this down in step 5 above, this can be found by navigating the TV menu to Settings > General > Network > Network Status. This screen will timeout, so write down the IP or take a picture of it.

Sync Setup

To configure a TV in Office, go to the usual Office > Lanes > Display Controllers and double click on the DC you want to configure. Select Samsung BET as the monitor type. A “not authenticated” message will appear in Office. Enter the TV’s IP in the IP Address field. BEFORE CLICKING AUTHENTICATE there are some things you should know:

  1. The TV must be on.
  2. You will need a TV remote.
  3. You are only given 30 seconds to accept the connection on the TV after clicking “authenticate” in Office.

This may be difficult in large centres if only one person is available. Ideally, this requires two people - one person at the computer clicking “authenticate” in Office, and the other person would be walking around with the remote to quickly accept the connection at the TVs. When you are ready, click “authenticate”. A prompt will appear on the TV (either in the top-right or the top-left), and you will have to accept it by using the TV remote. After accepting it, the “not authenticated” message in Office should disappear.

If you are setting up just one Display Controller, you may now reboot that DC from Desk. This will push the authentication data to the DC.

If you are setting up the whole centre, you should first finish authenticating all TVs. After you have done that, navigate to Office > Admin > System Control and click reboot. This will reboot the whole centre and push the authentication data to the lanes. Verify the TVs are working after the reboot by opening Desk > More > Monitor Control.

FAQ

A “not authenticated” message will appear in Office when setting up IP monitors. This will appear when either the access token or the MAC address is missing for a monitor. Both the access token and MAC will be cleared when you change the IP for a monitor, and the error message will reappear.

When a computer tries to authenticate and user denies access 2 times, the TV will not allow the computer to authenticate. It will simply ignore any subsequent authentication requests. Because of this, do not deny access. Just let it time out – it will time out after 30 seconds if you do not accept.

If a TV is replaced, it must be authenticated in Office before it can be controlled. If a Display Controller is replaced, all associated TVs must be authenticated in Office.

Channels must be scanned before you can control TV channels. You can do this by pressing “CH LIST” on the TV remote and selecting “scan now”.

At this time, we only support digital cable channels. We do not support analog or air channels.
